Decentralising Herefordshire – What is going on and what has to be done.

The Government are decentralising the ways in which public services are organised and delivered in England and Wales.

Decentralisation is something which none of us have encountered – it hasn’t happened in England for many years, maybe the last time was when the Romans left. So we can’t be expected to understand a lot of what will be going on.

We may not be aware of the implications of Government announcements. TV and the newspapers can be expected to give sketchy outlines which may gloss over important details.

The aim of the website is to inform Herefordshire folk about decentralisation and how it will affect us all. Local politicians, public service administrators and anyone who wants to understand the changes which are afoot and the ideas underlying them should find this website enlightening. You may not agree with what is happening, particularly if it upsets your life and what you are used to. Such is change.

Much, if not most, of what will be on the website will be of interest throughout England. The outcomes will vary around the country – that is the nature of decentralisation.

Anyone with time to spare could find out what is on this website - if you wish to research this yourself a good starting point is the Government’s introduction to what they are doing on the Communities and Local Government website.

There is a lot going on around the country which can be followed if you set up a Google Alert using the keywords "Decentralisation" and "Localism".

The Community Development Foundation Briefing is the best of its kind I have come across.
